History Beckons as Gaultier Prepare for Munster Senior Club Final

Gaultier LGFC will carry the hopes of Waterford into Mallow this Sunday as they prepare to contest the Munster Senior Club Championship Final for the first time in the club’s history.

The newly crowned Waterford senior champions face Cork champions Áth Fhada, also known as Aghada, at Mallow GAA Sports Complex on Sunday 8 November, with throw-in at 3.30pm.

It is another landmark occasion in what has already been an extraordinary season for Gaultier.

Just over a month ago, they made history by claiming their first-ever Waterford Senior Ladies Football Championship title, defeating Ballymacarbry 1-8 to 1-4 under the lights at Fraher Field.

That achievement was remarkable in itself. Founded in 2014, Gaultier only captured the Waterford Intermediate Championship in 2023 and are now in just their third season competing at senior level.

Their progress has continued into the provincial championship.

Gaultier booked their place in Sunday’s Munster final with an impressive 0-16 to 2-5 victory over Clare champions Kilmurry Ibrickane on 25 October.

Emma Fitzgerald led the scoring with seven points, while Annie Fitzgerald contributed four as Gaultier produced another assured team performance to move within one game of a Munster title.

Standing in their way on Sunday will be a strong Áth Fhada side.

The Cork champions secured their place in the decider following a high-scoring 5-12 to 3-11 semi-final victory over Kerry champions Southern Gaels. They had previously defeated Tipperary champions Cahir 6-11 to 0-10 in the quarter-final.

For Gaultier, however, this season has already shown what this group is capable of.

Their journey to the Waterford title included a semi-final victory over reigning champions Comeragh Rangers before they overcame the considerable challenge of Ballymacarbry in the county final.

Katie Desmond was Player of the Match in that historic county final, scoring 1-1, while Róisín Kirwan, Molly Comerford, Emma Fitzgerald and Caoimhe Flynn also contributed to a victory that secured Gaultier’s first Waterford senior crown.

Now their attention turns to Munster.

For a club that was established only 12 years ago, Sunday’s provincial final represents another significant chapter in a remarkable rise through the ranks of Waterford ladies football.

From Intermediate champions in 2023, to Waterford Senior champions in 2026, and now Munster Senior finalists, Gaultier have continued to break new ground.

Whatever happens in Mallow, reaching this stage is already a major achievement for the players, management, volunteers and everyone associated with the club.

But with one more big performance, there is an opportunity to make history once again.

Waterford LGFA wishes the very best of luck to Gaultier LGFC as they represent the county in Sunday’s Munster Senior Club Championship Final.
