Referee Appointments

The Fixtures Committee shall appoint referees for all games from Under 12 to Adult. It is the responsibility of the home club to appoint referees for Go Games.

All clubs must contact the referee at least 48 hours in advance of the fixture to confirm availability. Referee details are circulated to all clubs. If the appointed referee is not available, inform the Referees Coordinator immediately.

Referees will be confirmed on the Waterford LGFA website or by the Fixtures Committee.

Referee Appointment Guidelines

⚽ Referee Appointed by Fixtures Committee

Game results are automatically updated through the Foireann system. It is recommended that each team checks the website to ensure that the correct result has been entered. If there is a problem with the result, please contact the relevant co-ordinator.

🏠 If No Referee Appointed

It is the responsibility of the home club to email the Fixtures Committee the final result after all games (or use the agreed method of notification for that competition). If there is a problem with the result, please email the Fixtures Committee with the game result and any observations.

Referee Pathways

From your first whistle to the national stage — here's how to progress as a Waterford LGFA referee.

Step 1
01

Become a Referee

If you have no refereeing experience, complete our 'Grab Your Whistle' Go Games or Level 1 course. These courses cover the basics of refereeing and allow you to begin officiating underage games within your county. Progress by gaining experience and regularly attending Referee Seminars and Workshops.

Step 2
02

Become a Provincial Referee

If your county is confident in your ability to referee at a higher level, they can nominate you to your Province to officiate in Provincial competitions through the Provincial Accelerate Programme. You may also apply directly if you feel you can meet the standards outlined in the pathway.

Step 3
03

Become a National Referee

By gaining experience at Inter-County games within your Province, you may be nominated to become a National Referee through full completion of the National Acceleration Programme. As a National Referee you will be required to attend National Seminars and ongoing training workshops.
