Waterford U16A began their Munster Championship

Waterford U16A began their Munster Championship campaign on Friday afternoon with a competitive and high-scoring encounter against Tipperary in Fethard Town Park. Despite a determined performance and four goals on the scoreboard, the Déise were narrowly defeated by a sharp and clinical Tipperary side.

Waterford started brightly and settled quickly into the contest, opening the scoring through Áine Desmond and Millie Brett from play. Their early composure and attacking intent set the tone for what proved to be an entertaining and fast-paced fixture.

Tipperary responded well, finding rhythm through accurate point-taking and strong ball movement. Scores from Orla Pamplin, Rebecca Hewitt, Emma Cullinan and Farrah Madigan helped the home side build momentum. A well-taken goal midway through the half strengthened Tipp’s position, though Waterford remained disciplined and continued to work hard across the field.

A significant boost for Waterford came on 30 minutes when Ruby Hallinan confidently converted a penalty, ensuring the Déise stayed within touching distance heading into the break.

Half-time:

The second half saw Waterford produce an impressive spell of attacking football. Hallinan struck for her second goal, while Millie Brett also found the net as the Déise narrowed the gap and threatened a comeback.
